Home from Dog Pad

We had a blast at Dog Pad this weekend while dogmom went to the wedding in Ohio. Dogmom said these pictures show how we behaved while she was gone...

Tory told dogmom that I was trying to get attention by barking all the time and not listening to her. Since Opie was behavin', I had to do something, ya know? I mean... it's not like she was busy doing anything else... well, um, maybe she was... 'cuz there were a lot of dogs staying at Dog Pad over the weekend. Something about it being summer vacation.

Anypaws, that's why I needed the attention!

Opie was an angel. I think he needs some psycho help. Dogmom thinks that we both do... if one of us behave, the other one doesn't. She's getting exhausted trying to figure out how to get us both to be good at the same time!

(Oh, yeah... almost forgot... she told us to let you know that Gemi's surgery is scheduled for August 6th! Between all of you who helped... and IMOM.org ... and Randi's clients who helped ... we raised all the money she needed to get Gemi's mouth fixed! Yea!!!)

Sumptin's Up!

We aren't sure what's going on today, but sumptin's up.

Dogmom used the tiny brush on our mouths this morning. First Opie and then me. We don't mind it, really. The gooey stuff tastes like chicken.

Then she squirted that liquid into our ears. And squished it around. And then she wiped it out. (We've not figured that one out yet... why she bothers to squirt it in if all she's going to do is wipe it out again.) Anypaws, then she put some other liquid in our ears. Goofy human.

Then she gave us pedicures. Said our talons needed to go. She tried to take a picture of the ends of our toes that she cut off... but the camera is dead. Anypaws... she told us some of the tips of our toes were like a half inch long... whatever that means. Oh yeah, we don't really mind when she takes the ends of our toes off... it doesn't hurt and it means we get extra treats. Dogmom goes one - two - three - four - TREAT! So every time she picks a new paw to pick on, we get a treat.

Didn't used to be that way with Opie. He fought and fought and fought whenever she tried to touch his feet. It took a lot of practice... and I had to show him the right way to get the most treats... but now he does ok.

And then she put some allergy drops in our eyes. She doesn't seem to like it when our eyes get all goopy for some reason.

Anypaws... we heard her talking to Tory at Dog Pad this morning. We think we're gonna go stay there for a while the way it sounds. Something about a wedding in Ohio and dogmom having to fly on a plane. (I did that once when I was a puppy. I didn't like it one bit! In fact, I let the whole plane know the whole time that I was on it. I howled and barked and whined so loud that they could hear me up in the cabin! Dogmom said at least she knew that I made the connection.)

If we're going to stay at Dog Pad, then we probably won't post till we get back. Tory doesn't let us use her computer... but that's ok, 'cuz we're too busy having fun!

Two Events Next Weekend !

Dogmom said there are two events coming up next weekend that will help pets that need a good home. At the first one, only the humans can attend... but at the one on Sunday, the pets can come, too!

On Saturday, May 31st:
Southwest Metro Animal Rescue is holding a Spring Fling Vendor Show! Home-based business owners will be showing off their wares and the event helps SWMAR to help abandoned, unwanted and homeless pets. SWMAR is a 100% volunteer organization that doesn't have a shelter facility; all of the animals are in foster care.

The Vendor Show is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chaska Community Center. Address is 1661 Pine Ridge Rd. in Chaska, MN. Here's a map!

There will be over 25 vendors - Arbonne, Party Lite, Pampered Chef and jewelry makers, etc.! DogMom will be there selling wine-bottle serving trays and she's donating 20% of sales to SWMAR. There will also be a raffle and food/treats for purchase.

We hope you all can make it!

On Sunday, June 1st:
Pet Crossing Animal Hospital and Dental Clinic is holding their third annual "FurEver Fun Day!"
Pet-related businesses, authors and artists will be there. You can tour the hospital where dogmom works part-time... and you can meet Dr. Kate and Dr. Hollee who fix our teeth!

The event will benefit Animal Ark Shelter and the Cornerstone Women's Shelter's "Protection for Pets" program - you know, the one we chose to give our barkday money to...

The event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pet Crossing. The address is 10861 Bloomington Ferry Rd in Bloomington, MN. Map and event details here.

DogMom will be there. We're not sure if we get to go (since she'll be working)... but we hope that you come!

Dogs Aye View - Answers...

So, we got some more questions sent to us this past week and here are the right answers from the Dogs' Aye View!

Rufus (and his mom) in Plymouth, MN, want to know... You dogs seem to have so much fun, with activities like the triathlon. Where can a pup and his mom find out about fun things like that to do in MN?

Well, Rufus, it's not easy in MN, that's for sure. There are so many rescue places that do their own thing for fundraisers, that you kinda have to look at all of their web sites to get the information from them. Some of them let you get on their mailing list and that helps. Dogmom sometimes just does a Google search for "dog events, MN" and sees what comes up.

We're gonna find a way to list them on our blog... but we'll need some help! When you hear of or read of an event - 'specially one that benefits a rescue group - would you send us an email at dogsayeview@aol.com so we can post it? Maybe dogmom can do an online submission form when she has some time in between her two jobs and classes. We'll ask her, ok?

"Hello, I'm Buddha. Although I hold the official titles of Best Dog in Woodbury and The Best Dog in the Whole World, this hasn't made me too full of myself to ask a question now and then. My question is: Why is it I like to curl up with my owner Katharine on her bed and Dennis the doggy daycare guy on his couch, but I don't like it when a visitor dog or a foster dog curls up with me? Don't get me wrong; I like these dogs. I play with them, I let them drink out of my water dish, I share my toys as a gentleman should, and I generally enjoy their company. But when one of these dogs settles himself/herself on my bed with me, I move to the rug. If they move to the rug, I move back to the bed. Why do I do that?"

Well, Buddha (www.beyondmyslab.blogspot.com), that could be a really easy question or a really hard one. Maybe you have emotional attachments issues... I mean, you know the foster dog isn't actually going to STAY living with you, right? So, it's better not to get too attached. I, Gomer, am a lot like that. I'll share my water dish. I might let them eat before I do... not always, but sometimes. I play with them and let them play with all but my favorite toy. But, dawgs, three things are off limits: my cuddle time with dogmom, my lamb-filled rawhide chew bone (even Opie can't share that!), and my spot on dogmom's bed. A dog's gotta have some stuff of their own.

Or, maybe they just stink. You know, some dogs noses are better at sniffing out weird smells than others. Maybe these dogs smell really funky to you... and not to other dogs.

Or, maybe you're not the same-species-cuddle-bug-type. Opie and I aren't! We'll lay down with the cats at the vet office. We'll definitely sleep with the dogmom. Heck, I'd even consider sleeping with a rabbit or a ferret... but with Opie? Are you joking?

Yo - Dogmom here. If you have a few moments to spare, log on over to Buddha's mom's blog and read a few bars and leave her a comment. It's not a "dog blog" in the purest sense, so she was rejected by Dogs With Blogs as a member... BUT... she has a great heart and loves animals and seems to need a bit of a boost in spirit right now. Let's show her that dog-bloggers are real people, too, and that even though we say "It's all about the dogs," we know it's all about the way dogs treat each other instead of how humans sometimes do...

The Key West Collies (www.keywestcollies.blogspot.com) want to know... What is snow like? And, does yellow snow really make you blind?

Snow is like crushed up ice cubes. You know, like when you chew on an ice cube and it's all chewed up in your mouth in little pieces, but it's not melted yet? Yeah, like that. Opie thinks it's like ice cream... but it doesn't taste the same. We don't think yellow snow makes you blind... we think the white stuff does a better job of that than the yellow kind - 'specially when the sun is shining. (Which isn't very often when the snow is out.)

Ok, so dogmom has this crazy idea of starting an advice column from the Dogs' Aye View.

Not advice about the medical and behavioral stuff you and your humans should be barking at the veterinarians and trained professionals about... but the other stuff.

You know, like why does Opie jump the fence? (To get to the other side.)
And what should I do when somebody is standing too close or bugging me? (Lick them in the face.)

She said it's similar to what Perfect Tosca does with her mailbag of questions. But we don't get a mailbag of questions... so now we want some.

Hey Dogs!

Today, we get to go to Dog Pad again. We wuf Tory at Dog Pad. I can hardly wait to get out of the truck when I see the big Dog Pad puppy-wagon come to pick us up for doggie day care.

We'll probably be too exhausted to post tonight... 'cuz we run and play and chase balls and dig holes and run and play some more all day long. Tory told dogmom that the pools are still out... but it rained last night so we're hoping to just lay in the big mud puddles if we can find one.

Dogmom said to not forget to tell you that Opie did really well during the boomies and lightflashes last night. He hardly shook or got scared at all this time. He did run over and lay down on dogmom one time, but I think it was by accident. He didn't see her watching Craig Ferguson on the TV while she was laying on the couch.

Tomorrow is our big day at the park for Top Dog Foundation's Minnesota Iron Dog Triathlon. Dogmom says to say a prayer that we will be nice to the other dogs and people so that we can stay and have fun. We think that's silly. 'Course we'll be good - Jody and Randi and everybody from Lake Minnetonka Pet Sitters are going to be there!

Dogs' Aye View 10K Continues...

Ok, dogs... we've passed the first kilometer mark in the First Annual Dogs' Aye View 10K. We're doing great so far so just keep running around the keyboard and telling all your friends!

So, dawgs, does your name fit your personality? Did you get your name because of your personality? Or, did you get your name before you really had a personality of your very own?

Dogmom found this site ... http://www.dogsabc.com/dog-names.html that describes us dogs based on our names. She would happily give credit to the site's developer, writer, owner... but she couldn't find any information on the site on under "WhoIs" other than it is held by a company in Scottsdale, AZ called DomainsByProxy. So if anybody has some more information, please let us know, K?

She thought that our descriptions fit us pretty well, all things considered.

Gomer falls into the 'Four' group of dog names. 'Fours' live on an internal clock so regular you can almost use them to tell the time. Whether it's mealtime, playtime, or bedtime, the 'Four' dog name lives for his schedule and will let you know if you're causing him to deviate from it. Don't get me wrong, it's actually really great. You can't appreciate the love of regular schedules that a 'Four' dog name has until you're on your sixth trip around the park with your 'Five' dog name in the middle of January waiting for him to 'do his duty'. We're back... we're tired... Opie hurt his tail...

Dogs... Dog Pad wears us out. We're zonkered. Beat. Dog tired.

We were asleep in the car before dogmom hit the highway on the way home... and after we got home, we looked like this for three hours...

But, we'll be back to normal real soon.

Oh, yeah... Tory said to dogmom (we heard her even without our super-dog hearing) that WE were complete ANGELS at Dog Pad this weekend. For four days.

Ok. So Gomer had to wear a bark collar for screaming at Tory cuz he knew dogmom was on her way. But, for the most part he was really really good.

And, I didn't even look at the fence with the idea of jumping it. Can you imagine that? I played in the yard and I chased the balls and I ran in the pool and I dragged the big rope around the yard. But I didn't try to jump the fence. That seemed to make Tory really happy. 'Specially since so many other dogs weren't on their bestest behavior this time.

Anyways. We're really happy that dogmom is home and she came to pick us up and take us back home with her. Even though we like Dog Pad best, there's no place like home.

[Dogmom says we need some ruby slippers.]

Oh, yeah. And when I was leaving, I darted out the door really fast. But dogmom was holding my leash and the door closed in between us. I yelped and I cried and I howled. She thought I was just complaining because I couldn't get into the truck and was stuck on the other side of the door. But, know what?

MY TAIL WAS CAUGHT IN THE DOOR!!! I was stuck. So, I pulled really hard and I pulled my tail free. In the process, I pulled some skin and hair off. Now I've got a holy tail. [snicker snicker] Dogmom says holy terror describes me better... whatever that means.

Really, it hurt. I jumped in the truck, but I was so happy that we got to go home that my tail wagged around in circles, as it is wont to do... I can't control it when it does that. Round and round like a fan. In the meantime, I sprayed some blood round and round like a fan spraying water in a circle. Dogmom got in the truck and kind of freaked out cuz there was blood on the windows in the front of the truck. She was trying to figure out where it was coming from... but since now Gomer and I had our faces by hers, she couldn't see it... meanwhile, I sprayed the blood around the back of the Explorer.

When we got home, she figured it out. By that time, I forgot that I hurt my tail... silly humans freak out at the smallest things. Something about just having the truck detailed and now having to do it again. Don't have any idea what that means. Anyways, since I kept wagging off the vet-wrap bandage she made... she put a big Band-Aid on it. Goofy human.

Anyways... we're still zonked and beat and dog tired... so we'll post a better post tomorrow. Promise.

We went and we looked at all the booths and met some of the dogs, but we didn't actually walk very far because Gomer's leg was still hurting him and he was limping a lot.

We Interrupt This Blog... (UPDATE)

For an important announcement...

Dogmom got our DNA test results in the mail yesterday!

Since nobody guessed correctly (ahem, including her) ... she's launching another survey to guess what breeds are in us.

Meet Daffy-Cat

Hi. We didn't actually get to meet Daffy-cat yet... but Dogmom did and she said we would like her a lot. (I'm not so sure... cats kind of give me the willies... but Opie seems to like them. 'Course, we know he's not quite 100% dog.)

Anyways, Daffodil (aka Daffy) owns our cousin Kristin. You met Kristen before. She came over one day when Uncle Matt came. Remember? They ate dinner with dogmom and then Kristin stayed and watched a movie with us. We like Kristin.

Oops... got off track there again. Happens when I get excited, you know? Anyways, Daffy is Kristin's cat. Or, is it that Kristin is Daffy's human? I don't remember. In any case, isn't she almost as pretty as a cat would be if that cat were a dog?

See, she even drinks out of strange receptacles... so, maybe she's not such a bad cat after all and we could make her an honorary dog. Whatcha think?

Dogmom said that's not a strange receptacle... she said it's a vase that she made in pottery class and gave to cousin Kristin!
